Snicker doodle scones

Funny name, amazing flavor. I've never made scones, but have eaten my fair share at Panera and Dilworth Coffee. I found this easy recipe thanks to my new found friend, Pinterest. So at 8pm after cleaning up the kitchen from dinner, I embarked on my biscuit-pastry making skills. I already had everything necessary to make these in my pantry and fridge. Yay. Hopefully you will too.

Here's what you need:

-2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
-1/2 cup granulated sugar
-2 tsp ground cinnamon
-1 tsp baking powder
-1/2 tsp kosher salt
-1/8 tsp cream of tartar
-1/2 cup unsalted butter
-1 large egg
-1/2 cup sour cream
-1/2 tsp baking soda
For the topping-
-1 tbsp granulated sugar
-1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

1. Preheat oven to 350. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silimat.
2. Mix sour cream and baking soda together in a small bowl and set aside. In the bowl of a food processor, place sugar, cinnamon, flour, baking powder, salt, and cream of tartar. Pulse a few times to combine.
3. Cut in butter, pulsing in your food processor, until butter is broken into small chunks throughout. (These steps could also be done by hand, which I did due to my lack of food processor).
4. Beat the egg into the sour cream mixture and pour into the flour mixture. Mix by hand, just until moistened. Place the dough on the prepared baking sheet and pat into a large disk.
5. Cut disk into 8 wedges and separate slightly. (My disk was hard to form, next time I might just drop chunks of dough on the sheet) Mix cinnamon and sugar and sprinkle over the scones.
6. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Allow to cool for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Now, the scones are delicious just like this. However, the Pioneer Woman has a maple glaze for her maple pecan scones that I just HAD to make. Mix together a little powdered sugar, a little melted butter, a tiny bit of milk, and a tiny bit of maple extract...yes, those measurements are exact. Drizzle the glaze over the top and let harden before serving.

I just had my three lovely taste testers (who may be named Grant, Grant, and Steve), try these out and they all enjoyed them and we all hope that you do as well!
