My good friend Lori from work/church is Italian to the tenth power. And man can she cook! So she inspired me to try cooking something I'd never done before, Italian Sausage with all the fixins. The verdict? Grant's words were "this is incredible!" And then he ate two. :) You don't need much for this recipe & it can take as long as you want it to or as short as you want it to!
This recipe makes 4 average servings. (2-3 Manly servings)
You will need:
-1lb Sweet, Hot, or Regular Italian Sausages (still in their casings)
-1 Green Bell Pepper sliced thin
-1 Yellow or Red Onion sliced thin
-1 Yellow or Red Pepper or Banana Pepper sliced thin
-EVOO
-8oz Baby Bella mushrooms
-Bakery hoagie/bratwurst buns (My favorite are from Target)
Directions:
-I started out with a little EVOO in a sautee pan on med-hi heat.
-Poke sausages with a fork!
-Place the sausages in the pan on each side for 8 minutes (4 minutes each side)
-Throw ALL of the other ingredients in your CrockPot
-Drizzle with EVOO & throw in some salt & pepper.
-Place seared sausages over veggies & put crock pot on HIGH for about 2.5 hours then go to the movies with your husband/wife/other half/friend/alone. My personal preference.
-Right before the sausage is ready, place buns on cookie sheet & bake for 5 minutes at 350.
-Plate buns & top with italian sausage & veggies!
We LOVE these despite their being awful for us. If you want to be a bit more health conscious, using turkey sausage & chicken sausage from Trader Joes is a pretty good idea too!
Having a party or the man of the house is inviting the guys over? Double or tripple the recipe, assuming your CrockPot is big enough!
Enjoy!
